WHERE: PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
WHEN: AUGUST 2012
HOW LONG FOR: 3 days
A couple of years ago, my sister and I ventured off to Czech (sorry) out Prague! It is my absolute favourite city break I have ever been on, so I wanted to write a somewhat belated blog post on it. This was actually my first trip to eastern Europe, and was when I was introduced to the wonderful red rooftops and beautiful turreted and domed buildings that I really, really love. Here are my favourite bits:
1. CHARLES BRIDGE
A beautiful bridge that hosts a spectacular view and one of the most captivating sunsets I’ve seen. Full of little stalls and busking musicians, it was great to pootle over!

2. OLD TOWN SQUARE
I loved Old Town Square. It was such a great place to sit with an ice cream and people-watch. It’s also home to the astronomical clock, which is beautifully intricate, where everybody gathers on the hour to watch the little animated figures perform their show. There’s also some great food on offer here (I’ll do a section about food later in this post).

3. PETRIN HILL
Petrin Hill was my favourite part of Prague. I had seen a picture of St Michael Church online, and was determined that I would see it. It ended up being SO difficult to find, although we were navigating using a photo of the tourist map I had taken on my camera… so we didn’t exactly help ourselves! When we saw those beautiful little turrets peaking through the trees we squealed with delight!

4. LESSER TOWN – LENNON WALL
Lennon Wall is one of the coolest things I’ve seen. It’s a work in progress – anybody can add to it! I love the idea that if I go back to Prague, which I really hope I do someday, it will be totally different!

5. OTHER BITS AND BOBS
- Prague Castle
- New Town – Wenceslas Square & the National Museum
- Just generally wandering around, appreciating the pretty buildings and cobbled streets
6. FOOD
The food in Prague was AMAZING. I have two places in particular I would like to mention in this post.
1) Café Louvre
THE BEST CAKES/PASTRIES/DESSERTS I HAVE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE EVER. Also very pretty inside. We came here every afternoon.

2) Old Town Square – we found incredible ice cream, scrummy street food, and delicious dinner. All in one Square. Amazing.

I hope I get to go back to Prague at some point, as it truly is one of my favourite cities. Since I went in the summer, maybe I’ll go and Czech (is it getting old yet?) out the Christmas markets one day..
Wonderful sights, and even better desserts.
